Well, there we were?Ķ we had gone into the shallow spot to catch junk fish to use for chunk, but the minute the first bait hit the water it was apparent that we were into a wide open tuna bite. Every bait that hit the water was instantly picked up. Now that I've got your attention I guess I should tell you that it was 4 to 7 pound skip jacks. Well they are members of the tuna family, and to tell you the sad truth they might have been the hi-light of the day! We caught a single Wahoo on the troll today (we think he was single, but he might have been married), and there were three more caught on bait. The tuna count is easy; there hasn't been a single pickup since the last report. There's just no way to sugar coat fishing this slow. We gave it a big effort last night, and were back at it early this morning but it was a no go for the tuna. The first non-kite 200# prize still stands, and now there are two more Accurate Boss reels for the taking, one for the first 100 or better before midnight, and another for after midnight. Modest goals indeed but ?Ķ.BREAKING NEWS, Jim the head chef just came into the galley to tell us that Dave Choate just landed a big tuna. Hold on. Ok, I'm back, I just went out to verify and sure enough while I was writing the report Dave got an estimated 200 pounder on a dead skip jack. As I said before he is not eligible for any prizes but maybe this is a sign of changing fishing conditions. It certainly has drummed up interest in the sport and this writer is wrapping it up and going fishing.
