And so passes June; long days of prospecting, anticipation, and fishing. Heading into July, the traditional month of offshore revelation, we are all in a state best described as limbo. As to what, where, and when it is anyone's guess. The ocean has served up yet another filthy curve ball presently impossible to draw a bead on.

We did some catching today, jerkin' and pullin' at it's afternoon finest, but the draw of finding something worthy ultimately cut into our potential production. Not the best strategy in lean times we'll see if we regret it in the end. Plenty of action settled nerves (mine in particular) in the end and the weather was/is spectacular. Flat calm; perfect temperature and humidity.

Best news of all are long range prospects not too far from here. Offshore "skin" and real potential for glory call tomorrow and beyond. While nothing promises to come easy we are undeterred. Photo of the day features a bright moment to be revered; high hopes for more.

Featuring jumbo sardines and mackerel of both varieties what we have is ideal for long range fishing down below. And that is exactly the plan. Playing through is the present strategy placing the local pursuit of offshore tuna on the back burner. It's no news that the incredible quantity of both blue and yellowfin tuna have been maddeningly finicky of late. Spots of jumpers,...... Read More
