Fish Report for 1-24-2013

But for a few highlights, two in particular, day one on the grounds did not offer much inspiration. Signs of fish
were abundant, especially in size classes perfect for offshore summer adventures, but conditions were contrary to
success just about everywhere we hung out our shingle.
While reserving judgment for at least one more day it is obvious that some help from the Fish Gods is in order.
There is no shortage of enthusiasm or effort, that alone has a way of overcoming obstacles, but we are presently
contending with a down swing that defies the vast majority of our bag of tricks.
Long time Royal Star veterans Ed Janowski and Larry Ward took it to them though. Ed picked off a mid afternoon 284
while patiently soaking a sardine on the right gear - 130# fluorocarbon, and Larry shortly followed suit with a
254. Both anglers are in the background as their prize comes over the rail. Larry is celebrating with the
traditional fist pump while Ed settles for the classic "Hi Mom" wave.

1-23-20131/22/13 Plain, physically and mentally. We traversed the stretching leagues fair and indifferent. The sublime side of Nature once again evoked peaceful notions - thoughtful, pleasant, and not too profound. A day of relaxation is what it was. A day to be enjoyed in fine spirits by the grace of Mother Nature. Tomorrow begins a more durable exploit, we hope, as the fishing portion of this voyage begins. 1/21/13 By travel standards an exceptional day on the high seas. No muss, no fuss steady progress was made toward our simultaneous goals of preparing equipment and reducing the distance between us and our primary destination. By far superb weather, perfect traveling conditions remain the highlight. It makes everything, every moment so comfortable and easy. All the references I have made to her charm in this state remain true; it's an attraction one can not repel; intoxicating in it's allure. And...... Read More
