News of the day by far was the vast potential discovered suggesting many good things to come as the
season progresses into August, September, and beyond. Yellows on kelps in a wide variety of size ranges,
plentiful Dorado in the same categories, scattered school size yellowfin tuna on a obvious northbound
train, and still more Bluefin in the same size range of 15 - 35 pounds.

After this day, that was originally slated as a travel session but instead became a boomer on production,
we are feeling hugely optimistic about even better things to come; for everyone. Though the local season
has begun on shaky ground to say the least, I'd venture to say, based on what is not too far below, that
things are going to change for the better within a few weeks - perhaps sooner.

Of course prudence must temper this projection as the unpredictable variables are all too common. But
suffice to say the stage is set in a big kind of way. We happened upon something very good today; not by
luck, by teamwork and fishing.

Bluefin were the main reward with a day of action reminiscent of days of old. Everyone had plenty, and
thoroughly enjoyed the pleasant surprise they were well prepared to make good on. There wasn't much time
to snap photos during today's action but I managed to grab a shaky one late of Greg Emoto with one of his
several 30# class BFT; not to good on the quality, but the fact that I got one at all was noteworthy.

Regardless of production a good time was had by all. It was a zero pressure, completely relaxed affair offering anglers a chance break out the light outfits and fish for easy fun. And while such a day does nothing to fill the RSW holds (though admittedly a few big goats found themselves chillin'...... Read More
