Royal Star Fish Report

4-29-2010
Royal Star

It is not nice out here. Twenty five to thirty knots northwest wind, seas 6 to 9 ft, swell northwest 12 - 17 ft at 14 sec. Slow going for us as we ease our way through. Admittedly, my generally positive disposition has slightly declined; not from a sense of injustice, but because doing even simple things, such as typing this report, become a royal pain in the rear in such conditions. It's not bad, or what I consider rough, it is simply inconvenient. Without the hearty northwest swell to stretch the seas out, it would be a lot worse. We've got that going for us. I'll sign off with good morning call out to everyone reading. It's just another day at the office for us. I'll send a photo to demonstrate.

Fishing photos of the day feature another extraordinary southland angler who has joined us on the tagging adventure now three years running. Warren Sakamoto, who is among the ultra elite fraternity that have landed and released a tagged three hundred pound yellowfin tuna, is captured this time with a much smaller "dink" at 160. Also Warren shows how it is done using the rail to maximize leverage while pulling on a highly spirited, Roca Partida 160 pounder that ran the gauntlet to be outfitted with new tag. Congratulations to Warren who had another great fishing trip.

Finally, for anglers meeting Royal Star on Saturday, look for our arrival sometime between 1200 and 1400. I'll narrow it down even more in tomorrow's report.

Tim

With the voyage complete and a palpable sense of satisfaction on board, equally palpable was the anticpation these anglers felt about heading home following a successful trip. There is nothing like returning from sea and reuniting with friends and family to share the tales of adventure and revel in the afterglow. At least for a day or two anyway. In the case of this latest Revillagigedo adventure bragging rights were certainly earned. So my message to those friends and loved...... Read More

I have to admit that although we are always happy to complete our fishing on a high note and begin the trek towards home, departing Isla Clarion, at least for this author, is not without a twinge of longing; and even sadness. As I have mentioned now on numerous occasions - I suffer torrid sentiments for this incredible island that has shown anglers and I incredible favor over the past twenty four years we have been fishing her waters. ......
