Fish Report for 7-16-2012
7/15/12
A beautiful catch of fish off loaded today that made it's way to Fisherman's Processing in record time.
Actually, "record time" is splitting hairs as just about every voyage accomplishes a similar goal. Sean,
Rosie, Raymond, and the entire team at Fisherman's Processing are now so attuned to the fine details of
the unloading procedure that run of the mill to them is extraordinary.
As an example of the amazing efficiency the Fisherman's Processing team demonstrates, Royal Star arrived
home at 0600 with a boomer load of yellowfin and Bluefin tuna as well as yellowtail; full limits all
around for everyone. It was a tremendous catch nearly all of which was designated for fillet, smoke,
jerky, and gourmet canning with Fisherman's Processing.
At 0715, only one hour and fifteen minutes after Royal Star arrived, the first fish of many hit the
fillet table at Fisherman's Processing! I recall many voyages in years past when the fish were hardly
even off the boat in an hour and a half; and definitely not out of the sorting area or off the sidewalk.
Between the dock side efficiency, the time savings for anglers wanting to get on the road home with
product in hand, and the improved quality of the product directly off loaded into totes today was an
ideal example of the extraordinary progress Fisherman's Processing has introduced to the San Diego long
range fishery.
As for Royal Star we are back out and at it departing just after 1100 on the annual "Phillips Steel/Wood
Group six day run. Prospects are fine offshore to the south as well as along the coast. Our present plan
is to build a voyage featuring the coveted big three - quantity, quality, and variety. It's easier said
than done however so we'll see how we're sitting a few days from now. The one certainty is that we will
be giving it one hundred percent - and then some.

7-15-2012We stopped on the coast for a few hours of fishing this morning. Conditions were off and the catching was slow so we called it a trip and headed for home. On the way we encountered a friendly pod of killer whales. They hung out with us for about 10 minutes rolling on their sides and bow riding. We got some great photos and our anglers captured the experience on video. I will post the best of the photo's on...... Read More

The good fishing continued for us today offshore in the bluefin grounds. We found a couple of spots early that stayed with the boat and bit a little bit. Then as is typical with bluefin they seemed to go down. In the afternoon we got a school which got with it for a little bit then settled in and we kept 1 - 3 going for an hour or so. Since everyone now has some bluefin tuna onboard for the...... Read More
