A couple of bright moments in an otherwise very bleak day on the high seas. Deteriorating
weather conditions and almost zero sign of fish were the predominate theme as all of us in
"the zone" were either off the fish or simply suffering through a down day - my guess is
the latter. Actually it's a pretty common story: the wind comes up and the Bluefin go down.
So be it.

Aside from one school seen before our mid morning arrival a handful of deep marks and
fleeting sonar images were the sum total of our day. Two of the larger Bluefin were
mercifully landed from one afternoon deep school saving us the indignation of a total
skunk. Needless to say by early evening the writing on the wall was clear - time to move
on.

So the southerly slide continues with plans to target yellowtail and variety tomorrow and
beyond. It appears that Mother Nature is setting up a fit offshore for at least a couple of
days so our options are fairly limited. But fortunately for us time is still on our side.
As for the Bluefin offshore both far and local do not despair - they are here in good
numbers, it is simply a matter of time and conditions before the next big float; and it
will happen.

Today's photo features veteran angler Dave Slater who drew the lucky card yesterday using
the right gear in sloppy conditions to make good on his sole opportunity. This sixty six
pound Bluefin was the reward for the trusty old combination of preparation and opportunity;
a job well done!

6/17/12 We're back to our normal routine this voyage departing on time, in fine conditions, with a perfect load of bait and anglers ready to begin the adventure. Heading south toward the offshore grounds we throw our hat in the pool among stiff competition. It appears that fair working weather will hold the door open for at least another day providing a chance for all of us working collectively to triangulate and make the most of what we find. Overall it appears...... Read More

06/16/12 Today our weather was even better. It was one of those days we as anglers hope for; greasy, flat calm conditions - perfect for looking. And with two days of yellowtail limits in the RSW tank we did some looking concentrating on bluefin tuna. We saw small dabs throughout the morning and scratched a few fish from them. In the afternoon we were right in the middle of the fish as they came up. We got a good look...... Read More
