Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

After receiving Captain Sims? lackluster report from Guadalupe yesterday evening I elected to wait through the early morning report today to pass along the total overview. At present it looks like it was a good thing I did as the guys found a sign of the coveted, Guadalupe size class yellowfin albeit a small one. From Brian?s morning report, it sounds like they hooked around one dozen yellowfin in the forty to ninety pound class and landed about half that due to a variety of reasons; one of which all of us who have fished the island are well acquainted with ? Great White Sharks. Naturally we are very pleased with the news of at least some better sized yellowfin around the island and we can only hope that what is present is only the tip of the iceberg. We have definitely seen such a pattern in the past where the main body of yellowfin doesn?t show up at Guadalupe until the month of September so time will tell if history repeats. Regardless of any and all predictions (that are probably a waste of time anyway) the fact is that there is a sign of big yellowfin at Guadalupe, and for that we can feel very optimistic. I will receive another report from the guys at day?s end and will update accordingly.

As we say, timing is everything. In this instance the combination of time of year, volume of fish, flat calm weather, and the perfect...... Read More

The guys finished up the voyage with a final full day of offshore albacore fishing in good weather. It was not a wide open day of non stop catching but they scratched up a respectable seventy chunky longfin before calling it a trip and heading in from the west. As for the crystal ball fishing forecast for the upcoming weeks, there still appears to be a very good quantity of albacore around, and, as I reported last week, now is...... Read More
