Fish Report for 3-6-2004
Following a quick morning tour to locate the right area, we headed in to the island for a mid day break planning to have another go at the tuna when the late afternoon bite time arrived. Our island break was magnificent with a gorgeous beach and flat calm landing offering island exploration, beach fishing, and world class snorkeling. When the time came, it was actually difficult to tear ourselves away from the idyllic tropical paradise and return to the task at hand. Unfortunately today, the task at hand proved frustrating as the fish were not only scattered about but also reluctant to bite. Many a chumline were thrown and many a boil were seen but few were hooked and aside from one decent fish the smaller tuna were the aggressive party today. With two full days remaining, we plan to give it another shot tomorrow looking for the right indications to develop and the big fish in the area to turn on.
Our photo today features first time Royal Star angler David Vaccarezza with his 207 pound trophy yellowfin landed two days prior during our spectacular afternoon big fish bite. Prior to this Dave's biggest tuna was somewhere in the fifty pound class but despite this fact Dave handled the gear and himself like an old pro. Congratulations Dave on your catch and needless to say the bar is now set considerably higher.

Far from a bust, we found the fish in the morning today but they were wild as all get out and running five knots or better. As the day progressed, the fish slowed down and spread out over miles making it a little difficult to find and remain with...... Read More

A classic case of "should have been here yesterday" as the hot zone fizzled to nothing and puke green water moved in. We covered some good ground regardless taking a mid day break for a few big Cubera'a before heading back to our bait spot to check on progress. The bait department was also a bust but nothing ventured nothing gained. We will have to be content fishing blackies, bullets, and anchoveta which proved a winning combination last trip. So......
