Fish Report for 6-12-2011
And off they went with Bluefin on the brain departing just after 10: 00 a.m. with a group of highly charged anglers ready to find their share. The always enthusiastic charter master Larry Brown busily engaged in meet and greet while everyone settled into the new routine they will enjoy less cell phones, incoming text messages, and televised distractions for the next seven days. Without all the noise of modernized living anglers will be able to engage in exactly what they came for as purist fishermen; that is an attraction almost too good to be true in this day and age. With Captain Brian Sims at the helm, good weather finally in the forecast, the Bluefin zone continuing to produce, and a full moon coming, there is no way a better set up could be drafted. Of course this is the exact scenario that Mother Nature relishes; astronomic expectations have a way of generating surprise results. But there are certain times when the good outweighs the negatives by such a wide margin that it cannot be ignored; this is one of them.
So it is now on Captain Sims to make good on the opportunity - no pressure here, but he is well familiar with such scenarios after living in the breech for so many years. Between his experience, proven results over twelve years operating long range vessels, and perfectly matched demeanor for such endeavors, Larry's fantastic group of anglers are well served. Being a team effort they are also lined up with the best sets of eyes on the water between Chief Engineer Sean Bickel and Captain Gregg Tanji. With this pair and Captain Sims on the bridge looking a group can be confidant that if the fish are showing they will be found.
Look for Captain Sims' reports to commence tomorrow with all the details about the developing offshore grounds and more. Being a voyage of seven days they are certain to mix in at least a day or two down the line or at an island along the way. In the meantime I will be in the office during this week holding down the fort for Tracy with the help of Ann. If you are still on the fence about the three day at the end of the month, or any other upcoming summer voyage give me a call and allow me to convince you. We still have a couple of voyages with availability and plenty of time. Now is definitely the time to jump on. I look forward to hearing from any and all of you.
Photo of the day features one final shot from the previous voyage of long time veteran angler Robin LeMaster pulling on an Alijos yellowtail with the always splendid rocks in the background. Bundled up and powering through the wind and cold Robin is always game to make the most of whatever the ocean serves up - as are we.

6-11-2011We didn't find it today; no mother lode or definitive sign to report - yet. Sloppy weather again admittedly sapped any adventurous notions however as the past six days of like conditions, and a very successful catch in the number one and two RSW tanks provided plenty of incentive to make way up the line. The best news to report from our travels is the change in water temperature and color from what we observed on the run south that...... Read More

One hundred twelve bluefin tuna today from a couple of stops that were reminiscent of days past. After an incredibly therapeutic night on the sea anchor the morning for us began on a slow note with plenty of driving looking at blank screens and a generic ocean surface. Then it happened. I have to take a side step and relate that an overwhelming sense of confidence was pervasive despite our slow beginning. I felt we had something significant figured out...... Read More
