Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

We had a full day of yankin' and crankin' pulling on ridge varieties to our heart's content. With the exception of the "shakers", that were released with pleasure, we accumulated a hugely satisfying amount of fish. Muscles were exercised to the brink of exhaustion evidenced in particular by our final stop of the day that featured wide open action on 20 - 30# yellowfin tuna. As we rolled into the spot tuna were flying out of the water, and streaking through in waves right below the scuppers. They were eager and ready hitting anything and everything tossed into the melee. The majority of anglers favored observing over participation. Highballs in hand, showered up, standing on the open top deck encouraging the scant few anglers at the rail, or simply absent, they were done fishing for the day; all tuckered out. That was our cue; though admittedly I was far from satisfying what has become somewhat of a bloodlust for tuna following the offshore drought this season.

We headed up at day's end regaining altitude while planning to target tuna and coastal variety tomorrow to round out our wealth of premium product already in the RSW tanks. We are good. As I mentioned though, we sure would like to find a few more quality tuna. Photo today features Royal Star veteran Jim Kindness who pulled on his share, and then some, the entire day. Always at the rail with enthusiasm, Jim was happy to pose for this shot snapped in the heat of battle. Enjoy your day.

We passed a heavenly night fast to the bottom then scratched away at 18 - 25# yellowtail before picking up our stakes and continuing south. The reports are too much to resist. We sacrificed fishing time today, for fishing time tomorrow. If it plays out anything like we anticipate, the result will be well worth the time invested. ...... Read More

I'll tell you it sure feels good to depart on a voyage with a broad list of options. It is amazing how the addition of one day expands the available opportunities. The big irony however, and it is one that we have faced many times, is that the local fishing is finally awakening to the point that we fear placing ourselves beyond striking distance if the albacore really get with the program. It very well may happen. In fact I...... Read More
