Royal Star Fish Report

12-8-2006
Royal Star

Well, it was one of those days that one wishes would have turned out different; not from a lack of fish or poor conditions, but from a area of giant yellowfin tuna exhibiting a finicky appetite with almost zero taste for baits with hooks in them. Seeing the fish was not the issue for all three of us working in this zone. In fact, the area of scattered big fish today extended well beyond anything seen during the past week. Suffice to say that if even a minute percentage of what we saw today went into a biting mode it would be a real spectacle; or simply put, just like last year. So, we head into today with the most incredible, grease calm sea one can imagine, and believe or not, we are hoping for just a little more wind to create a drift and push our aerial presentations away from the boat. Otherwise we have perfect looking conditions for working offshore. At the very least, these anglers were treated to some unbelievable shows yesterday as these massive bruisers crashed all around the boat, completely clearing the water many times in jaw dropping demonstrations of their hefty proportions. So now that we have witnessed the quarry, it is time for the catching to begin. With a little luck perhaps today is the day.

We continue our southerly trek in fine weather biding our time while awaiting radio reports from the big fish zone. By all accounts, yesterday's action down below was again exceptional with good catches of cows made by both boats in the region, including the season's first three hundred pounder. Despite less than favorable weather, the fish still made a decent showing, and at the very least, still showed significant interest in biting. Needless to say the excitement continues to mount......
