We began our annual June five day voyage on the right foot with fine offshore action on bluefin tuna though I have to admit there were some frustrating moments as much of the fish we encountered was reluctant to bite. Regardless we put together a nice day that produced not only bluefin but about twenty yellowfin tuna, sixty percent of which were forty to fifty pound class fish. Needless to say this size class yellowfin offshore, in this zone, at this time of year is a real bonus that once again demonstrates the unpredictable, highly dynamic nature of the June long range fishery. I can't remember ever catching this size class fish in the "upper" zone at this time of year and a poll of my contemporaries, including the "old timers", is in agreement.

With a good beginning to the trip in the hatch we are heading down the line looking to fish the island for a day or two before returning to the offshore pursuit of Bluefin, yellowfin and Albacore in what we hope will be a continuing trend of excellent, calm weather, perfect for working outside.
