Another fruitless search for us and the fleet convinced us to head inshore at noon to do a little prospecting and give our shore fishermen an opportunity to try their hand. The primary target was trophy rooster fish but any an all action was certainly welcome compared to the grind on the outside. Our shore party was easily landed and immediately set to catching a variety of jacks and snappers while Randy worked the outer fringes of the beach from the big boat. Absolutely breathtaking scenery, unchanged since the beginning time, was the backdrop and provided a couple of rare glimpses into nature and a distinct primordial feel. Following our shore fishing mission and afternoon break, we headed back out to the famous Hannibal bank where conditions for tuna fishing continue to be tough (green water) but the snapper bite is red hot. Action, action, action was the theme and the ravenous snappers put on a surface show reminiscent of an albacore of tuna bite crashing through the stern and at times completely clearing the water in pursuit of our chum baits. Needless to say we enjoyed plenty of catching and releasing before settling in after dark. We are planning to relocate to a different area tomorrow where the only signs of tuna and the best water conditions have been seen this voyage. With three days remaining to fish we have our work cut out for us but we are certainly prepared if these tuna decide to make a showing.
