Brutal, tough, agonizing, fishing here today with no room to sugar coat or otherwise. We did have a few morning highlights including a pair of 175# fish and one stop in particular where a handful of cows put on a show while slurping down bait after bait on the corner but the afternoon came to a grinding halt with our extensive search uncovering plenty of sign and good conditions but nothing other than dry holes and small fish. We have all definitely experienced slower days of fishing in much poorer weather but that knowledge is really little consolation to us at present. Fortunately the spectacular Panamanian weather continues to grace us and at the very least makes the search for fish a relatively pleasant endeavor. So passes another day and with two remaining we still have plenty of time to get back in the saddle and make a few of these wily big fish pay a dear price. For now that is our goal and we are determined to meet it.
Our photo today features a bright moment from four days past with long time long range and Royal Star veteran Frank Mc Carthy and his 218# Panamanian trophy. Unfortunately yesterday, Frank's moment of glory was succeeded by the agony of defeat when his hook broke at the very end of a momentous battle with a estimated 250# yellowfin hooked on the anchoveta. Such is fishing and with one trophy already in the bag the disappointment of losing this beast was far easier to swallow. Not for me though.
