Royal Polaris returned February 28 from a 22-day trip with fly back option from Cabo San Lucas with seven tuna over 200-pounds.

Accurate Pro Staffer David Choate of Torrance took first and second with 240 and 228-pound tuna. He used caballito baits on a 12/0 Mustad Circle hook, 80-pound Jerry Brown Hollow Spectra with a fluorocarbon top shot, an Accurate 30 reel and a Seeker 6463 XXXH rod.

"You know, it was just like the old days," said Choate, "we watched the fish go up to the bank, we tried to look for a pattern, but you really had to put in some rail time. We threw everything we had at the fish; sardines, caballito, whatever we had."

Robert Ramirez of Costa Mesa took third with his 203-pound yellowfin, also caught on a caballito.

Larry Eilbott of St. Louis said, "It was tough; you either had to be very good or very lucky."

Chartermaster Jack Nilsen of Accurate said, "This trip kind of brought us back to reality. We had excellent wahoo with seven tuna over 200-pounds. Back in the old days, this would have been a good trip. We were testing out our Accurate 50 Open Frame, and we're still testing our new Twin Spinning Reel. Accurate Pro Staff David Choate suggested, and I've agreed, that we should start plans to introduce a mid size ATD30 Open Frame. I think that'll get some fishermen excited."
