After an encouraging afternoon of abundant sign we were loaded for bear ready for the big night to come. We arrived at the party dressed to the nines. Only to be stood up. Damn. As so often happens in fishing what went down the day before does not ensure the same will happen again. We and our dedicated colleagues devoted some real time and effort covering hundreds of combined miles for zero sign. Back to the drawing board we spent the day scouring banks for remnants or new schools mixing in a little variety fishing along the way. The end result? Nada. We closed out the day less a single bluefin to show for it.
Always favoring the cup half full perspective we are mighty grateful for the first productive night that provided enough action and fish in the hatch to set us in the positive zone. Were it not for that - yikes! It was no barn burner by any means but a good time was certainly had by all. Freshing wind and building seas astern we headed for the barn content with the downhill ride that complimented the final traditional prime rib dinner. Our sincere gratitude is extended to this fantastic group of seasoned anglers and our dear friend CalStar owner and angler extraordinaire Chris Yamada. Enjoy the images and look for young Captain Duke Ekstrom's reports and images to follow.
