The day began with a fizzle as two big opportunities were lost to the pure fact that giant yellowfin are worthy opponents. Though it set an ominous tone conditions suggested that more were staging below. Well prepared for a big ending we watched and waited while the setting developed.

In what became a signature Royal Star finish: bottom of the ninth with two outs and the last batter sitting at an 0-2 count, the entire voyage was redefined in one swing. 316, 281, 256, 232, and 218 were the standouts while just over a handful more in the 60 - 150 pound class supplemented the action on big cows. What a morning. Real deal.

Adding to the incredible setting was beautiful weather and a nigh flat calm ride to the barn. We’ll take it. Captain Brian “Gerbie” Sims and I teamed up on this effort sharing the pain of the slow times and hard earned glory. Brian will be taking the boat up the line maintaining the flow of photos on the dally narrative along the way. There are plenty to share.

Speaking of photos long time Royal Star and long range veteran Vladimir Kustudic receives big fish honors today with this hefty 316. In a signature long range moment Vlad looks on as his trophy is hauled on board through the gate.
