Selective fishing here today produced the primary target species. It took a fair amount of effort, a lot of winding and grinding, but each one is such a rich reward that single victories are compounded. On the down side the tuna that were so abundant and hungry a few days prior continued their hunger strike in our zone. The show was impressive - acres and acres of fish flipping and finning completely surrounded us multiple times; catching them was nigh impossible though. For certain it will change for the better. But we won’t be in that zone to see it; not this trip anyway.

Heading west at sundown in continuing flat calm weather we are sticking with the current pursuit of wahoo seeking to maximize opportunities at the most coveted of all fall long range game fishes. Shelving the pursuit of yellowfin tuna for at least another day we’ll rely on a couple of days on the back end to provide that shot. Admittedly though it’s getting a little dicey on that front. Timing has not been kind to us thus far. Photo today is a dandy of long time Royal Star angler and friend Blain DeBrouwer with the right kind coming over the rail.
