Brian Kiyohara docked American Angler at Pt. Loma Sportfishing August 24 after a five-day trip with 19 anglers.

"This year's albacore fishing has been very frustrating," wrote Brian. "There has been no lack of fish, but finding them during bite time has been a challenge. Today we were able to take advantage of the good weather and sharp eyes of the crew. They kept us running on spots of fish under birds pretty much all day. We had steady stops with one of them producing 50 fish."

The trip visited Benito, Cedros, the offshore kelps area and the albacore grounds. Dwight Carwell of Oceanside won the jackpot for a 33.6-pound albacore. He baited a sardine on a 3/0 ringed Super Mutu hook and30-pound P-Line. He fished with a Shimano 20-40 reel and a Seeker Black Steel 6470 rod.

Tom Kelleher of Corona del Mar was second, for a 33.2-pound albie, and Mike Goldsmith of Oceanside was third, for a 33-pound yellowtail.
