A dandy catch of XL Cedros Island yellowtail came in to Fisherman's Landing aboard the Shogun with skipper Bruce Smith October 20, at the end of a seven-day Western Sports Shop charter with 28 anglers and chartermaster Richard Birnbaum. "They came up and boiled around the boat," said Smith. "It was great to see those big ones like that. They bit the surface iron pretty well, too."

Rob Chapman of Tujunga spent ten minutes in a scrap with a 41.2-pound yellowtail to win first place. He hooked his winner on a Salas 7X jig in Guacamole trim tied to 50-pound Izorline and 65-pound Power Pro spectra. He fished with a Newell 533 4.2 reel and a Calstar 700 H rod.

Rick Isle of Bakersfield won second place for a 40.2-pound mossback. It bit a Tady 45 in scrambled eggs color. Bob Weitzel of Garden Grove won third place for a 40-pound yellowtail he fooled with a Tady 45 in "Taka's" color.
