Royal Polaris Fishing Report

Hi RPer’s;

We had a very good day of fishing as the tuna continue to get bigger and the sharks backed down to next to nothing. Wahoo fishing continues to be good with many of the fish in the 40-50lb range. The larger fish seem to be moving in as the average was closer to 100lbs. We had a few that were in the 120lb range and a couple more in the 150lb range caught by Jeff Bishop and John Yamate. One lucky standout fish today was caught on the kite by your favorite ghostwriter at 213lbs. Here’s the brief story…

As a precursor, I had 3 nice fish over the past few days that took too much line and broke off. I was committed to not let that happen again so I adjusted the drag to the stupid tight setting before watching my double trouble go out. The fish could only take 50yds on the initial run and that was it. The only problem was that it came to the boat rather green and was simply swimming in aggressive circles rather than laying over. Roy made the comment that it looked hungry and wanted to eat, so toss in a few sardines to slow it down. It eventually came to gaff and several passengers and crew showered me down for my personal best. Unfortunately they missed the mark by 108lbs, oh well!

That wasn’t the best part as after I dried and changed, I went on deck to a tar and feathering in the form of an ice water bucket followed by a pitcher of flour exploding on me. I’m told it was hilarious, but all I could see was a giant puffball. Someone said payback is a #%&*! Enjoy the photos!

We have a day and a half left before combat fishing, where retaliation is in the planning. Wish us luck on a few more of these larger fish!
