Phenix rods 10 Day Excel Sportfishing trip returns, October 5, 2012

Excel docked at Fisherman's Landing under Justin Fleck's hand October 5, after a 10-day trip with Mel Fai as chartermaster. "We had good wahoo fishing and big yellowtail," said Fai. "This is truly an outstanding operation. Our group had fun."

Kevin Massard of St. Charles, IL won first place for his 36-pound wahoo. He said it bit on a sardine and a 3/0 Mustad J hook tied to 40-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon. He fished with 65-pound Power Pro spectra, and Avet JX reel and a Calstar 700 H rod. "It's my best wahoo," noted Kevin.

Travis Watson of Santa Rosa won second place for his 32-pound wahoo.

Tim Ayres of Culver City won third place for a 30.4-pound yellowtail.
