The new International Angler, the bi-monthly publication of the International Game fish Association, features a photo of Newport angler Tom Pfleger, PIER founder, with his newly submitted white seabass record of 57 pounds on eight-pound line. The publication noted that tom already holds line class records of two, four and six-pounds for the species. Pfleger's 57-pounder bit his live market squid near Ensenada June 22.

Other IGFA fish of note include a 160-pound escolar (all-tackle record) taken by Charles F. Ebanks at Grand Cayman Island, a seven-pound, seven-ounce barracuda on two-pound line caught by Paul T. Hoofe at Newport, a 400-pound blue marlin and a 262-pound striped marlin caught by Eryn Jacobsen on 12 and eight-pound line respectively, and a new bigeye record of 300 pounds on 30-pound line grunted in by Todd Evers, also in New Zealand.
